The U.S. would destroy Taiwan’s chip plants if China invades, says former Trump official
“The United States and its allies are never going to let those factories fall into Chinese hands,” Amb. Robert O’Brien told me during a conversation airing today at the Global Security Forum organized by the Soufan Center in Doha, Qatar.
The bulk of the world’s most advanced microchips are produced in Taiwanese facilities owned by TSMC. Gaining control of those plants would make China “like the new OPEC of silicon chips” and allow them to “control the world economy,” O’Brien said.
“Now let’s face it, that’s never going to happen,” he said.
Someone should explain to him that Taiwan is China, and an attack on China is in effect a declaration of war. What the hell is wrong with these loons? Their answer to everything is war. They haven’t won a war since WW2, and without the Soviet Union they would have lost that one too. One gets the feeling that even at the highest levels of the military in the west, their understanding of war is limited to the lessons of Hollywood propaganda!
We should also disabuse ourselves of the notion that Taiwan is ready to fight the mainland for its freedom. Most of the Taiwanese want peaceful negotiations for eventual re-integration. Their “independence parties” are a negotiating ploy. If we want to understand the future in this regard, have a look at Hong Kong.
That is my understanding as well Strider
There are 2 main Parties in Taiwan
The present incumbents tend to resist mainland Chinese Control BUT the Opposition which strongly supports some kind of “merger” agreement is ahead in the polls and the elections are next year .
The leaders of tha Party apparently are already in negotiations with the CCP to effect a peaceful merger of some sort.
What will the US do in that case ? Maybe thats why Pelosi was there…to give their puppets the phone number for Dominion Voting machines
Mao is dead. Chiang-kai-shek is dead. The only people living in the nineteen fifties are the Americans.
While it sounds like a nice strategy how would the US implement it? Unlikely the Taiwanese would sabotage their own plants and if China had already invaded, the US isn’t going to fire missiles or attack from planes or ships. Nice propaganda talking point but not much else.
