As a Data Scientist, small sample size does NOT invalidate statistical conclusions. There are in fact statistical tests that have been developed for small sample sizes and are in common use in research. So that’s a red herring.
I did not look at the study in detail, but if I’ve learned anything these past two years — check what the fact checkers are saying. If they say it’s not true, it’s highly probably it is in fact true. My 2 cents.
Depends who the fact checkers are…their credentials and track record IMO
