SAVE THE TENT APPEAL
Repost
The problem causing huge gaps between posts and titles when viewing on your phone is the long links we post
There is an easy solution if everyone would participate .
use tinyurl to make your link instantly smaller before puting it in a post
This is so simple even Brandon could do it
🙂
I have flagged long links in the past, cough cough, with a solution that do not require tiny url. AND SAVES SPACE AND IMPROVES THE LOOK.
Below, from ‘Flush the Turd’ is this original link, supplied by … some guy:

Now, remove the “?” and EVERYTHING AFTER (which is just monetization credits for referrals) and try again.

And for those who don’t sub TET, below that post was one re globalism failing … here’s the compact link following the same trimming …

I am trying this out and it’s not working here
I am checking via “Preview Changes” and when I delete the ? and everything after…I get an empty space where the link should be
Probably because your editor treats the entire link as one inseparable item. So deleting part deletes it all. I use a cursor plus a space or two to split the link, before deleting the back half. Its easy once you do it once. However, my point is that the trimmed links take you to the same place as those with all the baggage at the end.
OK, so I just went back and changed all my long links in my last 5 posts to a TinyURL and hopefully that will help out a little.
Another option is when you write a post there is a box that says “link” which allows you to turn a single word into the link you want the reader directed to.
I can’t find it. Where is the box you refer too? I would like to be able to try it out.
It’s next to the bold and italics boxes. Above where you write the post.
I looked. There is no box that says “Link”. There is an icon of a chain link though. Is that what you mean?
Yeah try that. That might be it. Looks different on my phone.
First I would second what @pedro_deleon said. Recommendation for everywhere not just this site, always remove from link everything after question mark, this is how they track you. This is how they know who first posted link and how you followed that person. For example link from amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09FZ3959F/ Everything after this product number is designed to track you. So, before you save link into your bookmarks, to check product price later, save it to be clean like this one.
Second, there is a huge problem with these shorten URL’s. You never know what you click on. I tend to check every link. If I see, link has bunch of tracing embedded, I copy paste link first, clean it and ONLY THEN I open it. Yes inconvenient and extra work, but I’m doing my best preventing companies learning everything they can from me.
Third, these shortened links can be malicious, they can take you to the site you really don’t want to visit. And there is no way of figuring this out until you open it and then is too late. I never, on any site, ever click on any shortened URL. Call me paranoid, I’m old school, from before the internet.
Ideally, this site would have it’s own mechanic, where you could insert link, like @goldredemption mentioned it. I need to learn how to use it.
“there is a huge problem with these shorten URL’s. You never know what you click on. I tend to check every link.”
YUP .. I will not hit links with tiny URL for that reason.
Yes I find that irritating also – (not knowing where it leads). Going forward using the short URL’s method (word or small series of words with click-to-open-in-a-separate-window function), I’m going to make an effort to indicate the website source – ZH, Lifesite, YTube, rumble, bitchute, brietbart, reddit, X etc.
I have yet to hear that using the short word url method is causing cell phone users problems – are they?
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
I use the shortening of the URL method mentioned by Pedro above.
I also use the insert/edit link to post the URL’s as per Goldredemption’s advice above.
I agree with Buck that the “shortened URL” gives no indication of where you are linking to. It has the potential to take you to places that you don’t want to be.
All posts work fine on a computer which has the larger screen size.
On the cellphone some but NOT ALL large URL’s create huge gaps — it appears random — although something MUST be triggering it.
My “guess” is that this problem has something to do with how the “sidebar” interacts with the page when viewed on a cellphone.
NOTE: The sidebar cannot be read on a cellphone anyway due to small print size. A reader would either have to enlarge every inch or shift to a computer anyway to read same…..so (imo) it is wasted on a cellphone
