Given the incentives, via ad revenue, why hasn’t a genuinely superior search engine come along since google in like 2001? There are SO MANY features that I would want in a better one, but no one has bothered. I don’t even need it to be so fast, in many cases. Offer broad search in 10 seconds, or abbreviated in 1 second, for starters. For videos, allow sorting by duration. Offer a way (option) to eliminate most duplicate results (vids by time and title), text by wording overlap. Google is always asking “did you mean?”. Offer fuzzy search OR precise and confined search as options. I’m sure Lexis Nexis has good ideas for general search engine implementation. That was cool and efficient to use, in the mid 90s! I’m sure its improved by now too.
Yes, the search engine comparison was a real eye-opener. I compared it to my own, Brave, and was shocked to see it was the same as Google’s propaganda results. I’ve switched to Yandex. Might be better for finding movies too…
Nobody is going to make an honest search engine because it requires being an honest media company. Personally posted links are still the best way to find honest media. That hasn’t changed since ancient times.
