Many here at the Tent will recall the story of a Canadian farm family with 9 children, – 8 of them accompanying their parents to Russia where they hoped to resettle on a farm.

They landed in Russia on a tourist visa. At the end of three months the adults are required to pass a fluency test, written and oral. They will also be tested on basic cultural and historical facts.

Ten days ago it was revealed they had only 2 weeks left to complete the test, that they did not feel ready for it, and were considering a destination outside Russia where they could continue with their studies, and re-apply to enter the country.

Today we learn that the Russian government, at the last moment, has granted them a one year extension.
