Canada’s ambassador ignored by Beijing
The diplomatic chill between China and Canada is palpable all the way to the Canadian embassy in Beijing. And according to one expert, this diplomatic marginalization is likely to continue for some time due to the start of the work of the Commission on Foreign Interference, which is examining China’s interference activities during the 2019 and 2021 federal elections, among other things.
“The root cause of the decline in China-Canada relations in recent years is the serious drift of the Canadian side in its perception of China,” Beijing said after the exchange between the two ministers.
