So many decades ago I worked in Toronto at an ad agency. I told a friend that I was committed to buying one gold coin a month (gold Maple Leaf had not been invented yet, so it was krugerrands.
Only lasted two months and I met this woman. And things changed. I became a spender and didn’t buy another gold coin until the 1990’s. Again, only briefly. By then I was living the high life, two kids, unbelievable cash flow, and unbelievable spending habits.
Bought some 1/10 oz gold coins in early 2000’s and I was finished as gold became “too expensive” and I bought silver coins aggressively. My stash now is 99% silver.
I coulda been rich had I simply stuck to my original plan. The siren song of the shares did me in, wiped me out three separate times.
My dad was the smartest guy I know in my entire life. Came from nothing and built a small fortune with astute investing, starting with $100 every three months. took him that long to save up $100.
