The 1860’s Cariboo Gold Rush produced the most prolific gold extraction in Canada.
I believe 4000 tons of gold was mined in Barkerville  alone.

Just spent a few days camping there and touring the historic town.

In the beginning, the miners could pick up 1 oz nuggets.

At it’s peak, Barkerville was the largest settlement North of San Francisco and West of Chicago. 10,000.   It attracted all the modern conveniences of the day

It is now a preserved mining town.  No one lives there.  Wells is 3 kms away. That is the closest village.

Had 4 Covid free days. Amazing how it rejuvenates the soul.
