The cultists I deal with argue back that, for example, Oh, the great Governor Cuomo had the worst situation so he had to take the most severe measures, etc. I have to deal with people who are immersed in the propaganda. From their perspectives cause and effect are the opposite of the way we see things. The measures are more severe because the situations were worse. I have so far lacked a quick and easy way to respond to those who are sure of themselves.

Unfortunately people live in different worlds. I force myself to look at the Huffington Post. Currently there is a huge banner headline blasting forth about the DEADLIEST YEAR IN UNITED STATES HISTORY or something to that effect – linking to an AP article that would seem to back up the headline

Unfortunately it helps to try to live in other people’s minds. I find it almost unbearable to read something like the huffpost or yahoo news, but I think I need to, or else look at CNN MSNBC. There are clearly people who see nothing else and will believe nothing else.
There are others – fortunately many – who are exposed to this sort of thing but are fortunately naturally skeptical and I suspect becoming increasingly skeptical. However it is useful to know these other worlds they walk in and out of.
I agree with the conclusion (for other reasons) but I think this analysis is WORTHLESS.
First, because of false positives, I have zero confidence in data on who had something and who didn’t.
Second, there is no suggestion in this article that they controlled for other explanations.
Eg, lockdown states tended to be where population densities were higher. Western states tend to have rural populations and limited public transit. So of course, mask mandates will correlate with higher rates because they are implemented where risks are higher. So if spread rate is 80% and a mask reduces that to 70%, that WOULD be effective even if no masks in Podunk left the local spread rate at 20% or if it went up to 25% without a mask.
You need to do what we called “but for” analysis (trade inflicted damages), and that can’t be empirical without control groups.
This analysis is very thorough and Proves to me without a shaddow of a doubt that Masks at BEST are useless in preventing spreading of a virus.If you read it carefully all objections are dispelled in this article
There are enough Good Double Blind Studies over the years to have proven this without the world going nuts with these masks
