Self Check
If you pay attention to your Emotions During Trading Hours …you can learn some things about how they affect your trading.
Its not an accident that the best traders ..are the ones who are in general the least emotive types….Bottom of the class in emotion ! Leads to Top of the Class in trading results
🙂
I see it with guys like Rambus , who always tells me, he does his best work when he tunes out Everything else but his charts. Its not that others don’t have valid inputs..it just , he has been successful with his methodology and everything else is a distraction.
I see it with guys like Spock as well. Not much emotion in Spock..I believe the real guy is a Vulcan actually.
Just sits and watches the ups and downs until he turns water into wine
Now Surf and Norvast have their cycles site and these guys also are able to keep emotions out of their trades
Eagle , right here at the tent every day, trades like a machine .
Then there is Plunger who has studied all the emotions behind the markets
This trait allows these guys to buy and sell based on Geometry and Mathematics rather than Gut and Feel
…Ah that infamous portfolio crushing emotion “Gut Feel”
Anyhow. Right now my emotions are a little peculiar.
Last few days the PF stalled after going up every day for 2 months.
My emotion check revealed the predominant emotion was boredom. I made a few buys and sells for no apparent reason
…just to stay motivated. Spock always says…Sit !
Sorry bud ,I cant just sit there ..I need an adrenaline rush …often.
That’s part of the appeal for a lot of Gold TA Traders .We are in serious need of a game where we can make money and lose money …fast.
The Goldbug part of me used to be filled with another emotional peculiarity…Self Righteous Indignation.
“$%^&! Gold…Manipulated by evil #$%^&* banksters…#$%^&*!..one day they will lose control and I will be rich from all these gold stocks and all this phys…I will fix them ..i’ll buy more…mortgage the wife and kids ”
“Gold is Real ….Paper is Bullshit . I believe in REAL Money “…he said on the way to the bankruptcy court.
Sometimes in Gold the predominant emotion is FEAR. Other Times its Greed !
That needs to be factored in as well.
Anyhow just some musings on a boring day at the casino.
May tomorrow bring the adrenaline rush back.

PS: Lets face it trading is NOT for everybody
That’s why there is This ( For those who want complete control of their Investments without having to follow the markets closely and those who are not Emotionally Challenged) 🙂

Fully, won’t we say a little emotions are good else we become icecaps.
Emotion is one thing. Intellectual analysis (such as chart interpretation) with minimal emotion is distinct, although we can let emotion contaminate our analysis without realizing it. These two categories, emotion and intellectual-analysis-without-emotion are useful categories. Very different things.
The term ‘gut’ is not so good. It includes one of the things above, emotion. It also includes another entity (possibly a conglomeration of entities), namely *intuition*, which is can be just as different from emotion as intellectual analysis is different from emotion.
A major component of intuition may be pattern recognition, often not fully conscious, which may have come about from prior analytical study as well as from learning from what has happened following prior emotions, but in either case tends to be subtle and hard to detect directly.
‘Gut’ thus includes something obtrusive and often overpowering, namely emotion. It also includes something, intuition, that is often like the opposite of emotion in being so subtle that it is hard to detect in one’s self. One often learns to detect one’s intuition by noticing, “What was that little thing, barely perceptible, that was barely whispering at me, saying the opposite of my emotions?” OR “What was that faintest of faint whispers that was telling me that all my nice fancy chart analysis was bogus and that if I’d looked at the charts just a tiny bit differently I would have seen the obvious, namely that my seemingly obvious intellectual answer was wrong?”
Intuition is the faint whisper. ‘Gut’ sometimes is used to mean the screaming and shouting of emotion. Sometimes ‘gut’ is used to mean the faint whisper of intuition.
Forgive me for not refining the discussion more simply.
example of intuition: “I just knew it!” [after the fact, even though “it” had barely if at all made it into your consciousness]
“Sometimes in Gold the predominant emotion is FEAR” I often wonder if the people here in the US that are addicted to antidepressants will ever experience the kind of fear that gets them to buy there very first oz of metal. A pharmacist friend says antidepressants and diabetes pills are the two best sellers hands down regardless of what you might read on the net. She said the commonly used bulk pill containers for both antidepressants and diabetes never leave the sorting counter to be put back on the shelf. Lets just take another pill for the shit we really should be worried about and then go out and eat way more fat fuel than we can possibly burn off kind of nation and everything will be just fine.
its not adrenaline–its dopamine
all you need is uncertainty, and you get your fix
