Loading ...Russia Ensures Security of Military Bases in Syria Amid Ongoing Turmoil
Russian forces in Syria are taking all necessary measures to ensure the security of military bases, stated Russian President’s Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov. He added that the safety of Russian military bases in Syria is a very important issue.
“Of course, our military are also taking all necessary precautions,” Peskov said when asked how concerned the Kremlin was about the security of Russian bases there.
He stressed that it was premature to discuss the continuation of Russia’s military presence in Syria, as that would be a subject of future discussions with the authorities.
Moscow is in dialogue with Turkiye, including on the situation in Syria, the spokesman said.

Have Russia and Iran conspired to suck these apparently conquering jihadis into a no win situation. It may seem a little far fetched, but it makes sense in the convoluted manner of the Middle East. The civil war has never really ended. They seemed to have brokered a peace deal through the Astana process, but by all accounts, it was constantly broken. The country was essentially bankrupt through constant war, and western sanctions. Why not pull back, or out as in the case of Assad, and let these disparate and hateful groups remember how much they hate each other? There are already reports of fighting between them. Let them destroy each other before re-entering the fray?
Alternatively, the Americans might get involved to avoid “a human tragedy”. Any excuse will do, I suppose. Now the Russians and the Iranians will have Trump just where they want him – getting him more and more involved in an unwinnable war, which will be made more desperate by Russian/Iranian interference. That’s the American military’s favourite pastime.
