Communism collapsed in the Soviet Union because it impoverished the people. Economic decisions were made for political reasons. We in the west allowed a certain kind of statism to overtake our institutions, and now we have begun to suffer from economic decisions being made for political reasons. The increasingly blatant thuggery of governments is a sign of weakness, not strength. They have lost any moral legitimacy to lead, so they have come to rely on strong-arm tactics. These will fail. Everything they do fails.
