The cost was Gaetz. Politically it’s smart. There’s plenty of good options left for AG. And hell, for all I know, that could’ve been the plan all along, use Gaetz as a red herring. Gaetz only resigned his position as a member of 118th congress, but he was REELECTED for 119th.
If it’s true, I hope Gaetz was on the inside.

Seems that the Gaetz allegations run pretty deep. If so and if the Trump team did their DD they would have known he not only would never get approved but also he wasn’t long to stay in Congress. Therefore one can believe that the strategy which both Gaetz and Trump probably agreed to was to go forward the way they did with the express plan to bargain for the judgeships deal or something of that nature. Gaetz was finished either way so they sacrificed a pawn to remove a more important piece from the gameboard.
