A major hit to Gold, Silver and cryptocurrencies had to be accomplished to prevent a flight to safety. Teaching the great unwashed that if we flee to the above, we will be crushed. I do not see that working for various reasons.
I have no idea how much further pain we will experience but this is just a failed attempt to prop up the cascading failure of paper money as it loses value.
