Cell phones and EVs have similar experience in cold temps
I imagine that everyone will need a Cell phone to transact in CBDCs.
(hypothetical situation) Unless they use the chip on your hand.
During the recent cold snap -30s C, many of my friends had a rapid drain of their Cell phone’s power. They would go outside at 100% but return with single digit or a dead phone. That was over two hours. I did one run and in and lost 30%. What if someone lost all power and wanted to go in to the Mountain restaurant for a coffee to warm up?
During -20 to -15 C days I lose half my charge or more. Same with friends. If I want to take several photos in the cold, poof it’s gone! These are normal temps where I live and play. Windchill factored in. During -10 C days and warmer, I lose very little unless I take a video or multiple shots.
The replacement battery never seems to last as long as the original.
Another logistic problem. No charge, no purchase.
I always carry hard “cold’ cash. Always works.
You raise a good point, but even though the CBDC will have a phone app you will also get a debit card.
Sir Columbia and Sir CM,
I’m going on record : CBDC is a pipe dream.
Couldn’t agree more on carrying the cash: this morning I noticed the US $50 bill in my wallet and I was smiling to myself, what if my kids have never seen a $50 bill in their (cellphone driven, digital) lives?
And then someone asked me, “What do you think about the upcoming elections? Do you think Biden can win again?”
I asked them back: “Who cares about the elections”?
They asked: “Why?”
I said: “All I care about is inflation now. Trump, even if he wins, will have the scariest presidency of all-time, as the US deals with runaway inflation.”
I’m on record with the above statement as well.
