You are Grounded! (And soon enough you will be on foot)
I think a lot of people are still not getting how real the changes are regarding transportation rights and their personal freedoms. But this story may just wake up a few. France has now banned short haul flights inside its own borders as part of the efforts to reduce the country’s carbon emissions. If you live in Canada or the US and were feeling smug about how stupid European green policies are its probably time to snap out of the dream. Because a lot of you will be losing your rights to even drive in the future, nevermind get around by air. We know that by the kinds of changes that are being made to highways, vehicle electrification promotion, 15 minute city initiatives and changes to energy policy. The unthinkable is arriving quicker than we imagined.
Meanwhile, plans already exist to shut down all but 4 of the UK’s International Airports by 2035 so this short haul flight ban is hardly limited to France. It is going Europe wide in time and that will spread to the Americas if there is no pushback. Just something to think about…..the future is closer than you imagine. Better get to those retirement travel plans quickly because by 2030 the nearest you will get to an African Safari or tour of the Pyramids of Egypt is by watching it on your television set.
This seems to be purely a western collective disease.
In greater Asia and Africa, aviation travel is expanding.
Dubai airport is a hub, and its booming.
Emirates Airlines is expanding its fleet, to keep up with expected demand in Asia.
Thats why this initiative will fail !
They can’t lock one area down while the 80% of the world flourishes
I can only think of one airline that has a direct flight from the US or Canada to Africa. That is Ethiopian Airlines who have flights out of Toronto and Washington that go non-stiop to Addis Ababa. But nobody else does it. If departing the America’s you simply cannot get to Africa or the Middle East without going through Europe if travelling West to East so closing European airports is like shutting down a huge part of the planet because the big hubs are London and Frankfurt and Paris.
