The Vatican was told of the new bishop’s installation only ‘a few days’ prior to the event and was left out of the decision.
The Chinese Communist Party authorities have appointed another Catholic diocesan bishop in disregard for the Sino-Vatican deal and the Vatican itself, with the Holy See not being involved in the decision.
On April 4, Bishop Shen Bin was installed as the new bishop of the Diocese of Shanghai, an event predicted by AsiaNews the day before. His appointment as head of the diocese came only from the state-controlled Chinese Catholic Bishops’ Group, part of the official Chinese state-approved Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association (CPA).
Now, there’s the China we all know and love.
The Catholic Church is discovering that genuflecting to the CCP, as this Pope has, brings little but scorn. Alas, most of the leaders in the world have done the same, or will soon do so.

All throughout Christian history there have been outside forces that tried to control the religion for their own purposes. It goes all the way back to Christs time on the Temple Mount, to Rome where the Caesars tried to take control, to the churches many divisions from Rome, the takeover by British Royalty of the Anglican branch and now with China’s leaders attempting to manage the flock by managing the leadership. Through it all Christianity has just kept on growing in spite of interference and it is now the leading religion on the planet.
