Under pressure from Berlin, the EU relaxes its ban on combustion engines after 2035
German Transport Minister Volker Wissing tweeted that the way had been cleared for vehicles with internal combustion engines that only use climate-neutral fuels to be newly registered even after 2035.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (DISAGREES) –> “let the FDP get away with its reckless blackmailing of the EU for far too long,” Greenpeace said. “The result is a step backwards for the climate and a disservice to the European auto industry.”
In contrast, the transport policy spokesman for the FDP in the European Parliament, Jan-Christoph Oetjen, called the agreement a great success, the German news agency dpa reported.
“The nonsensical blanket ban on the internal combustion engine is thus off the table,” he said.
