US Gold & Silver Eagles
There has been some suggestions that the notches on the eagles since 2021(as an anti counterfitting measure) could also allow for some type of holographic coating to provide a specific identifier for each coin. While I don’t know whether that would be technically feasible, assume for this discussion that it is. That would allow for tracking and identifying transactions(if not as easily as with a CBDC) at least at some level. That would make one think about going with a different type of bullion coin or piece, all things being equal. ie in terms of authenticity of pure gold or silver. Any thoughts?
Not sure the notch is much of a deterrent to counterfitters. If one has the skills and equipment to make a mold to pour a good counterfit, how hard could it be to leave a space in the same spot on the edge of the coin? So if it isn’t much of a deterrent, why is it there?
