My wife suffers from chronic pain and has for decades. Doc can no longer prescribe pain meds unless he undergoes a two year education program (government dictate) to become a “pain management specialist.” Even then, she would have to undergo an extensive battery of costly tests to “qualify” for him to prescribe pain meds.
I would happily release the door on the gallows for all in the DEA. As a start…

Move to the AZ desert. Without a doc you can simply park, walk across the border, buy whatever you want (no Rx needed), have lunch or get your teeth cleaned, then walk back. I bought three bottles of popular antibiotics as a precaution several weeks ago for $20. Teeth cleaning was $30. Added benefit is that a quarter of the winter residents in this town are Canadian too.

We wintered in AZ one year, and everybody did the “walk across the border” to get what they needed. Easy-peasy. And cheap, as you noted.
