After last week’s dramatic speaker election, House Republicans adopted a rules package that will govern how the chamber operates until 2025 – Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) first legislative win as the newly-elected Speaker.
The vote of 220-213 was mainly along party lines
…………
Fully’s Comment …There was much angst and wringing of hands after McCarthy was elected that the Rinos and Dems would collude to destroy all the hard Work done by the 20 “Holdouts”
Many were certain they had tricks up their asses and would neuter everything won in the negotiations
Looks like they were wrong ! 220-213 . so only 2 defectors
Here is a Very Optimistic take on what was won
While we remain hopeful that this is the beginning of real change we must remember that the majority of the House is made up of Dems and Rhinos. Even if the Freedom Caucus introduces good legislation it has to pass the rest of the House, the Senate and be signed by Biden. If Biden vetoes anything, it is unlikely to get two thirds to overide. The best one can hope for in these next two years is a slowdown in wasteful spending and blocking anything that takes away more of our rights and freedoms until the 2024 election.
