I’ve spotted more than a handful of dead tickers, but the list is long.
Marty: “Interactive Brokers has published a specific list of what is taxable and what is not. If your brokerage house does not understand that ALL ETFs are not taxable, then you really have to find another broker. ”
pedro isn’t confident that Marty’s remark is a clear summary of what this is about. I think it deserves more investigation. Marty’s command of the english language, and his editorial effort, could be better sometimes.
From the link
“Withholding applies to PTPs held by non-U.S. tax residents (both individuals and entities)”
His quote saying ETF’s are not taxable is misleading. I believe he is referring to the fact that ETF’s, unlike Mutual Funds, don’t incur capital gains taxes on the fund’s gains on positions held, but just like any asset, if the holder sells he or she still incurs capital gains if sold for a profit.
