Transition to Green
I’m all for clean air, soil and water. Not wasting resources and pollution are high on my personal list of priorities. Everyday we see waste. Disposable whatever that will only find it’s way to landfill. Throwaway appliances that have a short lifespan are the norm. The ability to repair is no longer possible as the technology advances. Washing machines with a myriad of sensors is an example. A salesperson told me that a modern appliance has a lifespan now of roughly 10 years. Once the motherboard goes its sometimes cheaper to buy new. I remember the original appliances my parents bought in the 50’s. They had them into the late 70’s. As long as parts were available Dad could fix them. Mom only asked for a replacement as they looked “dated”. Possibly better energy efficiency too. What about all the energy input to make the new appliance?
With the push to EVs we are witnessing California implement charging restrictions due to power grid limitations. I believe that they are under 20% EV use at this time (a guesstimate). What happens as they mandate no ICE vehicles sold in CA by 2035? How many solar panels and wind farms will that take. What will they use to augment the periods when the sun and wind is not there? Massive batteries are not feasible yet and Hydro in the US South West is about to be affected by drought. More restrictions ahead. Innovations in ICE technology have advanced. Efficiency and cleaner.
Here’s my point. Once we eliminate cash as they want, the rolling blackouts will affect the use of CBDC attached to our Global Digital ID on our Smartphones. The wireless “tap-pads” have been in use for years but power is ultimately required to recharge these devices. As well, when Rogers Communications was down recently, the country was paralyzed during that time. Transactions and cell communication gone. I always have a supply of cash.
Modern society runs on energy. Lessen the supply and we take a giant step backwards. Biden and The Turd are deliberately enacting policies to curtail oil and gas at a time of transition when there is no viable “green” solution to meet the demand. I guess we are about to discover this the hard way in Europe this Winter.
I’m trying to do my part. Many years ago we were able to lower our water, gas and electricity usage without much hardship. About 20%.
My rant for the day.
Have no fear, Columbia. We will be consuming a lot less going forward. While the western world concerns itself with issues over which we have no control, the climate, for example, we ignore the realities of day to day living which require serious planning, and considerable effort. While we pretend to save the planet, our civilization will pass with barely a whimper. I take precisely zero pride in juggling my grocery store purchases because they won’t give me a plastic bag to carry my plastic wrapped products. Its funny how the bag will destroy the environment, but all the plastic wrapped around everything I bought won’t. My favourite truism these days is that life is hard, especially if you’re stupid. I expect life will get harder still because we are getting stupider. When you were a kid, your mom probably told you to take care of the little things, and the big things would take care of themselves. That kind of wisdom is long since forgotten. Our leaders spend their time fretting over how many windmills and solar panels will be required to reduce temperatures point one percent in the year twenty two fifty. Sadly, we no longer have the wherewithal to take care of the little things.
