I’ve made my views in support of Covid-19 preventative measures in the UK clear, but I think we’re losing the plot now. I’ve seen so many people wearing masks outdoors and in their own cars lately – what the hell ? “Now the government have said mask wearing in shops will be compulsory. Mask wearing in pubs, restaurants, cafes, bars isn’t necessary though… what??? Seriously??? Either they are lying and the risk is so low its not necessary (as in pubs) or its so high that it is necessary (as in shops). You can’t have it both ways. This is just stupid.
I think each of us adults should be able to make our own decisions on masks. The Govt WHO NIH CDC keep changing the rules…daily
There are different rules for different Counties here ..some of which have towns where the county line runs thru the town
..Like here in Hockley Ontario..one side of the a street in the village is in Dufferin…masks or you will be fined…the other side is in Simcoe…no mask required.

I know 3 people working on the frontline in the NHS. None of them backs up what is stated in this article. All report a very, very busy 4 months battling the virus and trying to save lives. I have heard nothing first hand to support these claims. That’s all I can say.
Although I don’t know the UK, I do have past familiarity with US medicine.
As you know, I like to express my uncertainty. While I don’t remember one definite smoking gun, I don’t believe this piece at all. It does not ring true to me. If I were the editors I would have published it with tons of disclaimers or preferably not at all. As I read it I thought it might be an attempt to discredit its publishers.
I hated it so much in reading it — I reacted with such visceral hatred — that I don’t want to go back to look at the couple of sentences that I thought were particularly suspicious.
I suppose I will express my uncertainty. I wasn’t there and I don’t and can’t know and as I like to note I often make mistakes. But I simply do not believe it. It doesn’t ring true to me.
It’s pure stupidity. The messaging is getting very confusing now.
If COVID-19 is prevalent in an area, then only the three C’s will work in conjunction with mask use: avoid closed spaces, crowded places, and close-contact settings.
If mask wearing is required in some places in town, then it should mean that there is a surge and indoor dining/pubs should be not allowed.
You are right, you can’t have it both ways. They just realize you can’t wear a mask and eat/drink and the economy needs to re-open in some ways to get folks back to work. We just blew it in the US, so I don’t know how it is going to go over during the next couple of months.
Covid is here for good…it is another endemic disease caused by something ( virus or not)…like Rabies , West Nile , Lyme Disease , TB , H1N1 Flu , listeria , tetanus , flesh eating disease . herpes , clymadia , aids, strep throat, skin cancer and and and
You cant close down indoor spaces / places of commerce / worship / learning /exercising / concerts / sporting events forever.
Gotta get on with life…lose the mandatory shit and let people chose the level of risk they are willing to take.
Driving your car is a MUCH greater risk for you than Covid !!!
as always – the only way one has a chance at securing one’s rights is to sue. sue the stores, the governor, the mayor, etc. of course – not everyone has the time or resources to do so. but complainin’ ain’t gonna cut it.
How about personal responsibility.
You know the risks…you go to a store …you get sick…go home…don’t sue !

I should be able to go into the store maskless….but then I can’t sue them if I get sick…it’s my choice my responsibility
There is an exemption ..if you have a “medical” reason you can’t wer a mask
I saw a lady and her son in the local Feed mill…no mask..after they left I asked the cashier ….she said…they both have claustrophobia…I said did they have a medical letter….they don’t need a letter…you just take their word
so I said ME TOO…and took off my mask…she laughed and did the same….

RTV is correct. People need to stop complaining and take action and that means filing lawsuits. Only way you will ever get these power hungry liberal politicians to stop. I agree with you Fully and think RTV does as well. I believe he is saying that the only way you can get into any business is with a mask as much as we would prefer to not wear them. Legal and political pressure is the only thing they will respond to.
Yes I agree…They do not have legal right to force anything by decree.

Ah, my early evening entertainment, reading the Covid exchange on Goldtent. I enjoy the sharing of ideas, perspectives, experiences and resources. Here’s an experience I had today…after a very lousy round of golf in 93 degree heat.
I picked up a re-charged car battery at an Interstate Battery store here this afternoon in 99 degree heat. I got halfway to the storefront (I have to park a long ways away since I have an oversized truck) and realized I forgot my mask. No mask, cannot enter.
So, traipsed back to the truck in 99 degree heat, walked back into the store, and waited in a store that does not know how to turn the AC on low.
Finally, a guy comes out and says, “here’s your battery, I’ll carry it to your car.” For which I was mighty thankful.
As we walk out the door and I rip my mask off and wipe the sweat from my upper lip and brow, it suddenly dawns on me. If all of these mandated mask wearing orders are in play, then the virus should cease to infect more people. Right? (North Carolina has mandated masks to enter any business. ANY.)
I ask the guy as we are walking along. He says, “Don’t get me started on these damn fools and their orders. There is no way to tell the truth anymore.” To which I responded: “That’s the truth.”
People can write comments on their masks (pro and con) and on other clothing. In many jurisdictions they will not get arrested, yet, and they may be allowed into some stores. They of course may get beaten up.
Someone on off-guardian commented about writing ‘new world order’ on one’s face mask or T shirt but turning the N into a swastika. I suppose one could get into trouble unless there were an accompanying explanatory message that one hates nazism.
One could write that hearts masks on one’s masks.

If you have a medical condition ( you don’t need a doctors letter)
Just tell em you have asthma or claustrophobia and you are exempt !
