It Doesn’t Get Any Tighter Than This
One of my favorite set-up’s is when a stock displaying a great chart, gets into a very “tight and quite” accumulation pattern. GSV which I posted about earlier this week is as tight and quiet as it gets. I love that it has been confined to the narrowing band between the 200 and 50 day mvgs. I expect a massive upside breakout between tomorrow and Tues.
Locked and loaded
thanks CM
I too love holding stocks that are quiet within narrow bands. (I think of the adage of “never short a quiet market” stood on hits head). But why should we expect an imminent breakout?
I will sometimes hold these for weeks, even months, w/o a breakout. (By coincidence just within the past hour I was looking for news about one that I hold that has been remarkably quiet for weeks, a little different in that its tight band has been sloping downwards slightly.)
Love it.
“…accumulation pattern”.
I am a highly amateurish half-self-taught in TA. For “accumulation” I look to OBV. When I look at OBV for weekly or daily I don’t see much for GSV. How does one determine accumulation here?
I also look for a slight curvature, convex upwards, or higher lows.
What should I be seeing other than the narrow Bollinger bands and what could be a handle?
Lot’s of questions Karl? The best I can do is, when you get this tight with almost no daily range, especially after a period of time and the shrinking distance between the 50 & 200 moving averages, something has to give. Based on the chart, the fact it is gold exploration, and both the chart for GSV and others I watch look like something happens in next few days. Chart, first. other technicals, second. My gut based on experience, third.
“Gut” “experience”
Those I pay lots of attention to, although I prefer the word “intuition” (which I used to invoke frequently on this site. Intuitive pattern recognition that people–maybe only certain people–have trumps or adds to many formal signs in my opinion.
Thank you.
Also a valid comment “that is what she said”
No, Patrick, she said: yes, Yes, YES!

Thanks JSKauai, The chart told me something should happen soon. This presentation next week should be positive(or why would they have it?) Got to believe people will buy in advance. Not the catalyst I was looking for but if it helps to get the ball rolling, I’ll take it.
