Seasonality – for Whatever it’s Worth
Interesting at this exact point in time, to say the least.
(I know, I know, it’s just one tool in the toolkit!)

Yes same with the miners. Buy at the end of July and hold on!

Didn’t quite work out like that last year though…
“Didn’t quite work out like that last year though…”
You’re right – it didn’t. But the rally was contra-seasonal, wasn’t it? Gold rallied strongly from January until late March, then corrected downward until late May, and then powered up into a top by early July ($1,377.50 on 07/06/16), just when seasonality expected a low. So it wasn’t a great surprise that the seasonals would be inverted in 2016 (AKA as “wrong”!).
I’m sure there is some validity in seasonal moves in gold and currencies, but I only give a lot of weight to seasonals in the grains.
Also some interesting cyclicality, though my work is mostly bearish at present.
