This is starting to feel like the small pullbacks in PMs of the ’90s and the early 2000’s. Does that make you feel old or wise, my friend? π

It makes me feel a bit worried! π
Which ’90s gold stocks bull market are referring to North? Maybe from ’92 to ’96?
Yes, 92-96. That was a pretty good run. π
I did not even know what a “gold stock” was back then, but I read that it was one of the wildest PM stocks bull market ever, even better than the one that started in 2001.
Look at the XAU/GOLD index :
http://www.silverdoctors.com/gold-silver-stocks-will-rise-again/
Very few people talk about that period and it’s strange because gold did very little while Miners were on fire.
It would be good if somebody could post some performances of individual gold stocks! π
Mamare…I cut my Gold teeth during that Gold fever mania
it was truly WILD
100 baggers in months
I was green and buying via the phone on my brokers advice
Commissions were very high $300 a pop often …but nobody cared
Everytime a junior released good drill results it doubled in a flash
You are correct…all this while Gold went from 400 to 450 or so
Then Brex was discovered to be a salting scam and that was IT !
I have been waiting since then 20 years to see this happen again and it feels like we are starting !!
I rode a stock from $1.40 to $14 in 3 months and held it until 14 cents therafter
Bandore Resources on the Venture exchange (Vancouver)
You are the proof that the 92-96 PM bulls was INSANE!
And it’s unbeleviable that almost nobody is talking about it…this is wierd.
The large majority looks at Gold and Silver past bull market of the 70’s to find some similarity with the one that started in 2001…but what IF we will not have a new top in gold and we will not have a new upleg in the last gold bull market?
Could we experience something similar to the 92-96 period?
It would be interesting if the whole bunch of great traders and investors here could give their opinions.
Well Martin Armstrong (I’m a big fan of him and his work) says gold is going to $5000/ounce so that’s a big move and then the miners– the $HUI and $XAU are trading at the same price they were in 1999 when gold was $250/ounce so I really believe that this NEW bull market, that is just getting underway, will be one for the history books
You are Right Mamare
I have always been amazed that NOBODY discusses that unique period
I think it was more like 1994 to 1996
TWO YEARS OF SHEER HYSTERICAL MANIA
Look up Cartaway , BreX , and a few others I have forgotten about
Yes this can happen and if ever there was a time it is now…Exactly 20 years after the BreX bubble burst
I went to the Prospector and Mining show at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto in 96
BreX chief Geologist named De Guzman was crowned Geologist of the year
The he flew back to Indonesia …Hopped on a helicopter headed for the Mine and Jumped out into the Jungle
Never to bee seen again
The BreX mine was to be bought out .Barrick and Freeport were bidding and sent teams to do the DD
And found…NO Gold
Brex had gone from pennies to $300 a share
The stock price fell faster than De Guzman
The CEO Felderhoff ran away with his Millions to the Caribbean and was not prosecuted
Here are 4 junior stock returns out of a portfolio of 15 from the mid ’90’s bull from Jeff Clark’s article: “What To The Moon will Look Like”. The average return for the 15 juniors was 3,873.0%
Here are four of the 15 returns from the mid-90’s Bull in Juniors: Cartaway bought at $0.10 topped out in May’96 at $26.14 for a 26,040.0% gain May ’96; Pacific Amber $0.21 topped out May ’96 at $9.40 for a 4,376.2% return; Arequipa $0.60 topped at $34.75 for a 5,691.7% gain May ’96; Arizona Star at $0.50 topped out at $15.95 August ’96
I didn’t start investing until 1996 so I missed this bull.
This is probably the best kept secret of the investment world: the PM stocks bull from 92 to 96 !!!
Probably the main reason is the poor performance of Gold during that period, but it’s insane not to divulgate the amazing performance of Miners back then .
I don’t know what to hope for……either a resume of the Gold bull that started in 2001 or something similar to the incredible performance of Miners during 92-96 without the resuming of the Gold bull market!
:-/
I owned all of the above Carolyn
Rode them both ways
They were like match sticks…Pffffft and gone
The Bre-X scandal was a $5 billion scandal and one man was thrown out of a helicopter I remember…..dead men tell no tales!
He Jumped !
He was salting the mineral samples before they were assayed .
Wow He Jumped!….i am feeling a bit anxious about not losing money and buying the ‘right’ stocks and then of course selling before its too late…I signed up with Jordan yesterday again because I feel he knows some strong companies to buy and I am also buying Spock’s favorites. I really belive that this will be the opportunity of my lifetime….that mid 90’s bull was turning a $10,000 investment in juniors into $300,000 plus return…I totally believe Socrates’ “statements” that the gold bull trend is on track/resumed/bottomed….the cyclical bull in the mid 90’s was a wild time and I imagine the end of the last secular gold bull in 1980 was a wild time and I expect the end of this secular gold bull to be every bit as wild…just got to remember that when “the shoe shine boy” is offering tips on gold stocks to buy IT IS TIME TO SELL!
I signed up with Jordan”
Do you mean Jordan Ray Byrne?
Yep, I remember just before the nasdaq crashed in 2000 or so, every time I went for a haircut, all the two barbers and their customers were talking about were tech stocks. Since then, hardly a whisper about the stockmarket. π So if your barber is talking about stocks, get out, or you’ll end up with a haircut you definitely don’t want. In the gold bull of the nineties I remember first becoming aware of Brex when it was two dollars. Why? Because it was hyped so much. Maybe they were already organizing the scam. Then I watched in disbelief as it ran to 200 dollars plus a share, and I was not on board. And yes Guzman jumped, although I guess some still believe he was thrown. Biggest lesson I learned from the two bulls is to remember to sell before it all comes tumbling down. As I remember ego/eld was a big winner in the 90’s and in the 2000’s. I bought some at twenty-five cents before the big run starting in 2002. I would love to see another PM run, whatever kind of bull it is.
North you have the honor of most commented upon post ever in the history of Goldtent
There should be a post made by Spock or Rambus or by any other great trader here about the “stealth” PM stocks bull market from 92 to 96 altough Gold barely moved back then.
I keep repeating it because it is absurd that has not yet been made.
That’s crazy, Fully. LOL. Moggy’s stars must have aligned in some nutty way, π
