Johnny Hockey, RIP!
The Tent doesn’t do sports, I know. Yet, there are many Canadians here, and all of them know about the tragic death of Johnny Gaudreau. The Calgary Flames, for whom he played, recently honoured this amazing player, and his brother, both killed by a drunk driver. I couldn’t be more sad. When first I heard of him, he was called Johnny Hockey. I thought, typical American hubris. After all, Detroit was called Hockey Town! Imagine all those small town Canadian hotspots of hockey hearing that! And then I saw him play! That little fucker was Johnny Hockey, and there is no doubt about that. What a man! What a loss!
His family, returning to Calgary for Johnny’s celebration, showed every bit of class that Johnny displayed during his career in Alberta. God bless them, and God bless Johnny and his brother!
