‘Uncommitted’ leaders demand Harris back Israel weapons embargo to get endorsement
Leaders of Michigan’s “uncommitted” campaign and pro-Palestinian advocates called Wednesday on Vice President Kamala Harris to clarify her stance on a ceasefire in Gaza before they decide to endorse the Democratic presidential nominee in the Nov. 5 election.
The uncommitted movement, originally organized to pressure President Joe Biden to retract his support for Israel in its war against Hamas in Gaza, gained traction in the state when they urged Democrats to vote “uncommitted” in the presidential primaries. More than 39,000 Palestinians so far have been killed in the war, according to Gaza authorities, after Hamas invaded Israel on Oct. 7, killing 1,200 people and kidnapping about 300.
Uncommitted movement leaders said an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza is necessary, as well as an embargo on American arms sent to Israel. The group expressed a need to mobilize in November against Republican former President Donald Trump, who supports Israel.
