Reading A LITTLE … converting freehold to leasehold is what people do when they wish to divide a property and be able to apportion common charges among various parties.
Sounds similar to putting lease holders into obligations as a shared owner as in a condo, subject to the terms and powers held by other parties. In a condo, you have to fork over funds for pool renovation, or new roofing, etc.
Some of the posts in that thread make clear that in Australia, you only own the house and not the land, ANYHOW.
If this does not start waking people up, nothing will short of bombs dropping in their street.
