I remember looking into what TerraPower was doing 15 years ago, when Fuel Cell technology first started getting attention. It was a popular topic at the old Richard Russell forum.
Around that time, thorium reactors were also starting to get another look thanks to Kirk Sorenson. (My son actually got into physics at college based on his interest in the story line with this.)
Karl Denninger has been out in front looking into these ideas, but I haven’t kept up with the last on either thorium or molten salt.
They are worth a closer look, especially if you can scale them down and reduce the need for long haul transmission networks where a lot of energy is wasted as heat.
Thorium molten salt reactors. I’m not up to date, but I think, China is actively working on them.
I love the idea, no chances of a melt down, safest design, more thorium than uranium in earth crust.
Corrosion from the salts was the hurdle.
Imagine if the world had embraced these small reactors and had not gone down the road to Wind and those huge Solar farms? They will be a reminder of the failure of the green movement in the future.
Is it possible that Dr Bill has got the message? Not so sure yet. As long as there is profit, you can smell the good Doctor.
