A SOLICITATION: North Pole by icebreaker!

   A Russian icebreaker takes tourists to the North Pole every summer. Because I would like to go to the North Pole, I am in search of others who would also like to go.

   It used to be fairly easy for non-Russians to go to the North Pole, with either Quark Expeditions or Poseidon Expeditions, who chartered the Russian icebreaker ’50 Years of Victory’ to make the trip. Since western sanctions were imposed on Russia, the situation has changed and these companies no longer do business with Russia.

   It’s still possible to go to the North Pole, but it’s not nearly as easy for non-Russians. A Russian company, Polar Travel Club, now charters the icebreaker to make voyages to the North Pole. The lowest cost per person/double occupancy is about $30,000, plus travel expenses to get to and from Murmansk, where the ship docks. The roundtrip voyage takes 12 days. They still have space available on the voyage programs starting on July 14th and July 25th.

   Polar Travel Club has offered me free passage if I find 10 other people to make the trip, so that’s the reason for this notice. I will act as the coordinator for everyone who helps me get to the North Pole, including walking everyone through all details to get the visas, schedule roundtrip flights, Russian health insurance, how to deal with money, etc.

   The other possibility is for any number of people who want to go to the North Pole, even just 1, to pay my way and I will do all the coordination and take care of you. Afterall, I am the world expert on travel to and within Russia.

   Getting visas and getting the Russian authorizations to go to the North Pole requires time, so a decision is necessary this week.

   I won’t be going along on the polar expedition, but I do want to comment on the cruise ship. She is absolutely beautiful.
   The rust colour is reminiscent of those classy old Russian brick buildings tucked away in city corners well beyond the tourist path, while the superstructure imitates the architectural style. (I followed a walk about an old section of one such Russian city on another channel) She looks incredibly seaworthy. Anyone ought to be proud to sail on a ship like that.

   The drawing situated aft of the ship’s name looks somewhat like an atom, suggesting that the ship is nuclear powered. A quick internet search confirmed my suspicion that Pobeadi (if that is the correct pronunciation) is a nuclear powered polar cruise ship based in Murmansk.
