Here is a suggestion to the senior executives of major corporations, especially overvalued high tech companies like Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, Nvidia, etc. Instead of the excessive share buyback programs that enrich top executives by propping up share prices at excessive levels, most of those funds should be used to pay down debt(which is no longer practically free, as it was when interest rates were close to zero) and towards purchases of gold.

When the economy tanks(which it has started to do while everyone has been distracted) they could mitigate the speed and magnitude of their stocks’ share price declines, if they eliminated any debt paying more than one or two percent, and added gold to their balance sheets. Of course, most corporate executives would never consider doing this, but I would love to see one or two actually implement it. Their shareholders would benefit immensely.
