BUT….did this “counter culture” actually lead to where the perpetrators expected and wanted ?
WE are the Teenagers who lived it ….and we ( Boomers) have on ballance had perhaps the most charmed lives of any Generation in history.
Material success came to all of us who wanted it and went after it. I look back and marvel at how incredibly good it has all been.
The musicians we loved so much …many have turned out to be Schmucks ( Niel Young etc) …BUT their music was Brilliant and there were so many incredible Musical and Lyrical Geniouses back in that day.
One, we boomers that love freedom most always have short memories and short perspectives. Those referenced in the post you read beat us hands down with a very long perspective and very long memories. setbacks are seen as temporary and a call to double and redouble efforts to succeed.
I believe you are right – we boomers did live the last charmed period in western civ. Easy to earn material wealth, and enjoy a comfy life.
But short memories, or memories that only recall the good times, are our achilles heel. We forget Viet Nam (only 50,000 American soldiers killed for nothing, and hundreds of thousands maimed and wrecked for the rest of their life.) We forget the Kenney assassination (a coup, actually.) We forget the Cuban missile crisis. The gasoline shortage and almost-death of the American dream under “America’s best days are behind us” Jimmy Carter. The scandals under Reagan. The deep recession of the early 1990s. The market crash in the 1980s. The market crash at the turn of the century. 18% interest rates. Things like that – we just forget them as we reflect on the “good fortune” in our lives.
But the evil set in motion as described wreaks its havoc slowly and then very fast. We are, I believe, at the beginning of the very fast stage. Where all of the goodness left, all of the institutions and moral character that are pillars of free societies get washed out to sea in a great flood. The seeds planted way back when, by evil men doing evil deeds, are bearing fruit now at a very rapid rate. The harvest of what those men did back then is about to be reaped, the fruit is ripening rapidly and soon to turn rotten.
The depth of betrayal of our society and how deeply its been woven right into the roots of our lives is frankly astonishing and nearly impossible to absorb. Yet it is also undeniable as we are learning day after day. The amount and persistence of the level of energy needed to totally corrupt everything that was good about our humanity is equally shocking. Who could invest so much in such a long term goal where the outcome was not assured? Who precisely is behind all of this degradation of a great people?
Reprobates, satanic agents, and people who sold out/sell out. Remember, the son of God was betrayed for a small amount of silver. Then think of the motivated wealth behind this – not many can withstand the promise (and promise kept) of wealth and a “good life.” Add in watering down and removing Christian values from the culture and you have a lovely witches brew being drunk by the growing majority.
Could you resist the temptation of a few million $$? Of position and power? Of even a few hundred grand????
Thanks Silverboom. Good point. Yes, I can resist. But so can anyone with a functional value system! We are not all sell outs at any price. Sheesh, its amazing to me how cheap some people are. Any price is enough to get them to turn over their own Mama. Its true poverty.
WOW…Certaily well researched and well written
Many many truths exposed for sure

Hard to square it all …for me at least
The reason it’s hard to square is multi-faceted.

Hear that. Yes you are right Silverboom
