#7 Ant Nests Lead to Treasure
Yes, geologists are using this in sandy areas as one of prospecting tools. This can be a first, initial step when looking for semi precious KIM – Kimberlite Indicating Minerals since kimberlite pipes (that you need to have a chance to find diamonds) are typically at the top eroded and covered. One geologist took me on a field trip – for purplish red Pyrope Garnets, dark green Chrome Dyopside and light green Olivine (Peridot) picked up this way.

I found all three minerals on top of the ant hills. The only problem is, ants are too small, so they can only carry small stones. I’m looking into how to introduce some huge amazonian ants and how to properly train them, since they are not used to sand environments… 😉
