Win10 support to end next year
I was still on Win7 til a few months ago. No problems.
Time to get AI to build us a compatible OS that won’t bug out on us in so many ways.
LINUX with a windows compatibility module?

LibreOffice – Free Office Suite – Based on OpenOffice – Compatible with Microsoft
I have used this for 15 years and it is great. Completely compatible with Microsoft files and it reads and writes all older versions as well as new Microsoft365.

I agree. Plus you can use Open Office to replace Microsoft Office. I am planning on doing that anyway when Microsoft starts making us pay a annual fee for MS Office.
Office is one thing, but the OS and Defender support are another altogether.
I’m on Office 2010, and there isn’t much reason to upgrade that.
There was an addon for Outlook that was not going to be Win11 compatible, but X killed its functionality last summer anyhow.
My concern is with other Windows apps, like those that brokerages run.
I had to upgrade my trading computer to Win10 awhile back, or TWS and TOS wouldn’t update/run.
Question I need to ask here, is does Apple drop their support for older OS’s?
I’m tired of this MS gerbil wheel. And lining Gates’ pocket even more.
My early Macs became obsolete quicker due to storage limits, speed, as well as not supporting the OS. The old OS would not download all the advanced website features.
My last Mac has lasted 11 years but I read that I am at my last OS upgrade.
Functions well at the moment.
Go Linux! You will not regret it. Everything works, it is stable, always updated… There is office (Libre Office) and programs for just about everything. I used windows since 3.10 but after win7 I switched to Linux and never looked back.
Get older computer, buy cheap SSD, install MX or Mint (just let it all do automatically for you) and start enjoying.

I personally prefer MX. It has some really cool tools. For example, once you install all the software, so all is as you desire, then you use tool: MX Snapshot and with few mouse clicks you have your personal copy of your system saved in ISO file. You can now use this iso file and burn it with another tool: MX Live USB maker onto your USB memory stick and you have copy of your system, with all installed programs, bookmarks, passwords, email accounts…. all works off of that USB stick. You can plug it into any other computer and it will work. Or you use this USB stick to install your exact copy of your system on some another computer.
You think you need windows but you don’t. Just give it a try. No adds pop-ups, no spying on you… You have control over your computer and your system.
p.s.
One thing you DON’T WANT is, stay on windows that is not being updated any more – if that computer is being online. Every time MS pushes out updates, hackers reverse engineer the updates to see and get access to what patches fixed. They use special network scanners to look for computers with those catches not being fixed (windows that don’t get updates any more). When they find one, they can easy get access to it.
MX Linux Fxce version is more light weight and better suitable for older computer. Mint, last time I used, felt heawy.
But for someone new in Linux world, Mint has superb software installer, where apps and games are rated and with descriptions, something I found very very useful.
If you are little bit of a geek, you may even install both on the same computer and compare. Or try one at a time. Play with one for a week, then wipe SSD and install second one and compare the two…
MX Linux Xfce version – sorry for another typo
My charting software only runs on Win and Mac. Critical app #1.
And only on older Mac up to Mojave, apparently. Which is not supported.
And Mac Catalina, a later version from 2019, is no longer supported.
So Apple is faster at dropping support than MS.
LINUX would require use of a Windows emulator, or (fairly unique) Charting Software that’s designed for use on LINUX.
“My charting software only runs on Win and Mac.”
Pedro, that is unfortunate. You can try something, but it will probably not work. Although, worth trying. Install Linux then install Wine (and/or Wine-staging)
Wine is a bunch of libraries “Windows API implementation”, with which you can run some windows programs and games under Linux, but it can be hit and miss. My wife uses Roots Magic genealogy program for example and I could not get it to work under Linux. So generally, when you use some specific proprietary program on windows, this is usually bad news. Sorry about that.
Its also genealogy, yes.
My Heritage FTB is another with no LINUX. And I don’t like Gramps which has a LINUX version.
Winamp is another. No LINUX update since 2001. All my global music streams are there.
My browser DOES have a LINUX option.
Yes, unfortunate!!!
