The UK independent ran an eyebrow-raising story Wednesday headlined, “Boris Johnson admits mistakes were made and says ‘sorry’ to Covid victims.” The sub-headline explained, “The former prime minister insisted ‘we did our best’ in handling the pandemic at the official inquiry.”

Like in the US, the UK is now conducting government hearings — what they call ‘an inquiry’ — over that country’s covid response. Former prime minister Boris Johnson, who oversaw the lockdowns and fear-based ‘Psy-B’ psychological manipulation of the British public, testified.

“Can I just say how glad I am to be at this inquiry and how sorry I am for the pain and the loss and the suffering of the Covid victims,” Johnson began. The Independent reported four people were then removed from the hearing room after they held up signs reading, “The Dead can’t hear your apologies.”

The characteristically-uncoiffed Mr. Johnson took a broad-minded view of things. “Inevitably,” he explained, “in the course of trying to handle a very, very difficult pandemic in which we had to balance appalling harms on either side of the decision, we may have made mistakes.”

Maybe mistakes were made. It’s possible. Who knows?

Pressed repeatedly on why the UK had such a high rate of excess deaths – the second-worst in Europe after Italy – Johnson pointed to “headwinds” like an “extremely elderly population” with many health issues — despite the country’s vast socialized healthcare system — and being a “very densely populated country,” which he suggested “did not help.”

Mr. Johnson also blamed staff. With chagrin, he admitted he may have only read Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) minutes “once or twice,” adding that, in hindsight, “it may have been valuable” to have done more reading for himself. Of course, he’s a very slow reader given his obvious handicaps, so.

Some British MPs were less concerned about all the dead Brits, and more worried about diversity. Mr. Johnson admitted that his top team was too “male-dominated” and the gender balance “should have been better.” I’m glad this issue got aired out.
