While the article raises many legitimate questions and issues, referring to the 2024 election shouldn’t be one of them, at least as far as a cyber attack is concerned. Yes, if somehow the grid were to be taken down, the election would be the least of our problems. However, even with some type of cyber attack that might slow down reporting of results, elections used to be and could very well be done manually. There is no reason ballots can’t be on paper and counted by hand. The fact is, that even in heavily populated areas like NYC, elections are conducted at local polling places like schools and churches, so no area actually has that many votes to count at any one polling place. Tabulating the totals might become more difficult and slower, but so what.
