Now what?
Update (1635ET): After eight tumultuous months of pandering and lies (according to Rep. Matt Gaetz), Kevin McCarthy has been removed as Speaker of the House.
The final vote was 216-210. House Dems all falling in line behind Jeffries (along with eight Republicans: Biggs, Buck, Burchett, Crane, Rosendale, Mace, Gaetz and Good).
Update 2 with top candidates …

YES, they include 45, Tucker, AOC, Russell Crowe and Elon among party regulars ….
Good to see. Gaetz has a backbone, but it should be noted that only eight Republican members voted to oust the swamp creature who continually lied to his own caucus to sell out the American people. Now Republicans will be mocked as being unable to rule because eight of them have principles.
WOW…THAT IS INCREDIBLE
I AM SHOCKED…THE DEMOCRATS ALWAYS VOTE TOGETHER…WHO WOULD HAVE THUNK IT WOULD BE YES !
MAYBE THEY THINK THEY CAN GET JEFFRIES IN NOW
WOW
Commenters I’ve read have said there’s no one in the R ranks who wants the job AND can muster the votes. Jim Jordan has no interest. Drafted against his will?
AOC ?
The Speakers job involves counting. So, no.
Jordan doesn’t want the job because it would become obvious that he’s on the “Big Tech” payroll.
Speaker of the house doesn’t have to be an elected member of congress (although they have always been). Any suggestions of someone from the general public?
Don jr?
Keri Lake?
THAT would get interesting. Force rescheduling of court cases around Congress being in session? Of course, campaigning would only get tougher and this is not a win win job.
