I expect that whichever way the vote to vacate goes, it will be an excuse for a bounce in the stock market. It won’t last. As far as how the vote goes, while McCarthy has proven he was a Rhino all along by stabbing the House GOP in the back, twice, on both the debt ceiling deal and again here on the spending CR, he isn’t stupid. He tipped his hand that he has a deal in place with the Dems, knowing this was coming, when he goaded Gaetz to “bring it on.” What isn’t clear is, do the Dems support him on the first round or more likely let him twist for a while so that there is total chaos for a few days, without a Speaker. Then when he inevitably gets put back in the position, it looks like he is the only one who can bring order from the chaos and making him look like a savior.
