   We should expect to see a great deal more of these kinds of changes in the future. This is how the state abrogates its covenant with the people with regards to the social safety net. What they are cleverly doing here is shifting the burden of costs for social supports from the government back to the individual. No more “no-fault” coverage in other words. From now on we will find fault and assess the costs so the burden is borne by the one who caused harms.

   That is not necessarily a bad thing. Just be aware that taken to an extreme this may mean for example that people who are disabled by their own actions may find that they or their families have to cover their own medical costs. For example if you were injured sky diving (and lived) you would not necessarily get automatic full disability coverage for your severed spinal column. And maybe the flight pilot will pick up a share along with the outfit who organized the jumps.

   There is already a trend towards not giving full pensions to people who are already wealthy. Instead they may end up getting some refund for contributions. Or the case where large inheritances get used to offset future government obligations. After all, why is there an entitlement where none need exist? And how long before all inheritance is taxed? Thats also being debated. Changes, changes, changes….
