Words have consequences, as they say, sometimes even for parliamentarians. Four months after the House of Commons unanimously passed NDP MP Leah Gazan’s motion stipulating that “what happened in Canada’s Indian residential schools (was) genocide,” Gazan is back in the news proposing a supposedly logical next step: Making it a crime to deny that genocide occurred.

Remember the unmarked burial grounds at the residential schools? Big kerfuffle for months, yet strangely no proof. Lot’s of money given to lots of groups, but no proof. A special day of morning with absolutely no proof. Just another con job. The only thing getting buried is our culture.
A victim of a crime is hurt regardless of whether they call it a hate crime.
All crimes are already covered by law without the need of designating it a hate crime.
