President Joe Biden has awarded EcoHealth Alliance – a controversial non-profit that partnered with the Wuhan Institute of Virology on manipulating viruses similar to COVID-19 – with new multi-million dollar grants for pandemic-related research.

EcoHealth Alliance has received a new $3 million “Combatting Weapons of Mass Destruction” grant from the Department of Defense’s (DOD) Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) aimed at “reducing the threat of viral spillover from wildlife in the Philippines.” President Joe Biden’s U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) also gave EcoHealth Alliance a $4,000,000 grant on December 13th, 2022 as part of a program launched in October 2021 focused on “conserving threatened and endangered species by strengthening protected areas and helping communities be less reliant on protected resources for the livelihoods.” Set to conclude October 2026, the grant is worth $8.7 million in total.
