There have been multiple times in the history of congress when multiple ballots are required to nominate the House Speaker. However, at no point in history has the same person failed to capture the majority on six ballots and remained determined to keep trying.
At this point the hubris of Kevin McCarthy is becoming awkwardly embarrassing, which is to say, perfect. Kevin McCarthy is becoming a human meme.

This is MAGA playing hardball. I love it. Trump is doing what he needs to do. Nothing passes the house with twenty, thirty or forty votes. He’s telling the majority he will work with them as president. It’s a good move.
I agree with Fully, Trump is done. With his strident support for McCarthy, unapologetic support for the vaxx and poor personnel picks he’s no longer an attractive candidate. He’s become an establishment Republican.
If he was an establishment Republican, why is the establishment so intent on keeping him out of power? I agree with you criticisms, but Trump isn’t done. He owns the republican base. McCarthy means nothing.

Agree that McCarthy is too establishment, too many deals with the dems, too much like McConnell. My vote goes to Jim Jordan, but he’s not interested and I don’t blame him.
Trump endorsing McCarthy for Speaker is all part of the plan. He only endorsed him(knowing there were enough rebels to stop McCarthy from winning)so when it finally comes time for McCarthy to step aside, those who supported him can vote for Trump without feeling Trump stabbed him in the back. Even MCCarthy needed to be convinced Trump wasn’t undermining him or he would never withdraw or support Trump.

Don’t know if anything new but keep track of how many vote for someone other than McCarthy. Need to keep getting an increasing number of defectors. If each round it gets larger McCarthy will be done and they can eventually get him to step aside having taken his shot and lost.

If I were to guess, he’s an arrogant sob who didn’t take the populists seriously. When I read that he’d moved into the speaker’s office, I thought he’s either got it in the bag, or he’s an idiot.
