An acquaintance who emigrated from Russia about 6 years ago with his parents, stands with Ukraine. He told me this immediately after I identified him as Russian. They left Russia as they did not like Putin. Fair enough. He’s highly educated in computer science and AI. Parents are MD’s. Speaks very good but heavily accented English.
I asked him about life in Russia. Great food, good education, life was good. His parents criticized the government. One party rule. Putin was the focus of their discontent. They left. No problems coming to Vancouver. They fit right in. Apparently a large Russian ex-pat community.
Why does he stand with Ukraine? Not really sure. It was all about getting rid of Putin. He refused to have a discussion about the history of the US/NATO involvement in the former Warsaw Pact nations. Zelensky is a hero in his eyes for standing up to Putin. I was just asking questions and not confronting him. We don’t discuss the War. He’s part of the local dog play group near our place.
On another note, three couples in our building in Vancouver have left the country. Two went back to Hong Kong. Not willingly, I was told by the third couple that left. Something to do about assets that they still had in HK. This couple went back to an Island off the East coast of Africa. Something about his wife can’t take the cold weather in Vancouver. Huh???
It’s fascinating to talk to people from other counties. Their life experiences, etc. My guess is that Vancouver is 30-40 foreign born.
Excellent Important Insight Boomer. Almost none of this can be learned from the MSM .
Thanks
“What was once revered has now become irreparably broken, an American dream has turned into a contemporary nightmare. Russia though is walking away, leaving it to Europe’s eagerness and exclusivity to be the next to experience American capitalism. Russia views the EU as welcome to it.”
This pretty much sums up the situation.
