Hurricane Ian
The devastation has affected so many people. The cleanup will be enormous.
With manpower and supply shortages this could take longer than normal.
Rebuilding is going to be a challenge. Many retirees may need to come out of retirement to assist in the rebuilding.
With the influx of Freedom seekers to Florida, there may not be a lot of long-term accommodation.
yes, devastation is widespread, yes there will be rebuilding. The big problem areas are the center of the storm and the storm surge.
The community I am in just south of Fort Myers (Estero, if you care to look it up) should have been wiped off the map. Instead, our power and water was restored mid-day today. The clean-up and basic services guys that Desantis assembled are nothing but miracle workers. When Irma came through here in 2017 (a lesser storm, take note!!) we were without power for almost two weeks.
As we drove back here from Ft Lauderdale we were astounded at the commercial activity in Naples – many, many stores open, business as usual, crowds everywhere enjoying the fantastic weather (normal right after a hurricane.) When we arrived at our community, no traffic lights working on the access roads, treated everything as a four-way stop. Drove a backroad and all the tree debris has already been cut and cleared to the side of the road. It is astonishing what has been accomplished in 24 hours+.
Desantis and his team are awesome!!! Our home undamaged. Not a thing wrong, while neighbors with newer homes have serious problems. Overall, the condition of our little 400 resident home community is a miracle. It should have been leveled, but every house standing.
And no flooding. That was our biggest concern – flooding. Nope, did NOT happen.
First hand miracle.
Glad to hear. You were the lucky ones.
Nice to hear some good news for a change!
Great News Boomer
