Dr Suneel Dhand on medical authoritarianism
Not sure if anyone else on the forum follows him, but I do. A bit of background: He’s an Internal Medicine specialist out of Boston, born raised and trained in the UK. He has had Covid early on and is a big believer in natural immunity. Also thinks mask mandates are bullshit, no one should be forced into taking the shots etc. So, one of us 🙂
Tonight he did a 40-min webinar about medical authoritarianism as pertaining to the last 2 years. I thought it was really well done. He has been banned from You-Tube and Twitter for “spreading misinformation” so is on locals.com. I cannot figure out how to provide a link to tonight’s talk, so will summarize.
Before continuing, I recognize that we have some physicians on this forum. Winedoc and Dadoc come to mind, and these may be others. Please do not think that I am tarring every physician with the same brush. There are many excellent physicians out there like yourselves, capable of critical thinking and standing up for your principles. This is directed at the others who are just blindly following orders without any thought.
Tonight Dr Dhand was explaining why many physicians fall into authoritarian behaviour, defined as blindly following orders and coercing patients to do same without giving them a chance to state their position. Here are some salient points raised:
- during the Nazi regime, it was physicians that signed up first to become Nazis
- a 2017 study in the Lancet pointed out that a high % of physicians possess narcissistic personality and enjoy being authoritarian. The “god” complex
- when it comes to the Covid narrative, physicians have been both the victims of and the perpetrators of authoritarianism
- authoritarian behaviour is learned at school. The aspiring physicians are forced to accept the teachings of their professors and are not encouraged to question things
- had more physicians stood up and said “this is wrong, we are not going along with it”, things would not have gotten out of hand like this. The UK had a higher % of physicians who stood up. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for Australia and North America
- Dr Dhand has noticed that a fair number of younger physicians are very political and make no attempts to hide this. These are the ones whining on Twitter that “removing the mask mandates has put my pregnant wife at risk” and “I’m going to wear 2 masks. So there!
The arguments put forth made sense to me, and unfortunately I’m not left with a lot of hope that this group of professionals will stand up to government or question the status quo. Any physicians out there who would like to weigh in on this?
In a nutshell…
The first year of COVID prior to the vaccine was very different from the post vaccine era.
2020 we were called “heroes” The truth is I saw many physicians cower in fear to COVID. Many did not want to see COVID patients and tried to avoid it either by some medical exemption (I had one doc I supervise hand me a completely BS letter) or by advocating for remote visits. We were given letters stating how we were essential workers in case we were stopped by police while travelling due to the lockdowns.
At the time it didn’t seem like the wrong thing to do as I had friends in New York just overwhelmed. But, looking back on the whole thing we should have just let it run its course and had a “mass” die off whatever that meant. We would have been done with it and moved on with all of our lives.
There was talk of a vaccine end of 2020 and I was told that the Department of Veterans Affairs leadership had table talks with Pfizer regarding this. I was not told further details, but didn’t believe any vaccine could possibly be rolled out quickly. So, not only was the vaccine rolled out but it was a completely new technology which made me even more skeptical. There was no way proper safety trials were conducted.
Docs flocked to get the shots like it was the second coming of the messiah. When the mandates came out I resisted, but was not a vocal advocate against the vaccine. I have a family to provide for and so far have held out.
Note that I have not nor will I ever take any COVID vaccine. I was subjected to weekly testing then have since stopped the last 2 months. Nobody has called me out on it so far.
Multiple physicians once ardent supporters of the vaccines have discussed with me various concerns. One had a breast mass and underwent a painful breast biopsy. She wonders was this caused by the vaccine. Another won’t take any boosters as he felt horrible after the first 2 injection series.
The medical establishment threatening and cancelling many great minds is such an epic disaster I can’t even begin to discuss the far reaching ramifications. I myself am at a point of disillusionment with everything I was taught about evidence based medicine.
Trust has been broken and there is no going back.
Thanks for this Thread GMG and thanks for this reply Dadoc .
Many Doctors here still do the vast majority f their consultations and “examinations” by phone and “electronicly” sent photos .
The long established protocols requiring touch and feel and up close in person examination are now unnecessary all of a sudden ?
I too am disolussioned . However I am very impressed by our in home care medical system up here
My wife is lately recovering at home and there is a whole network of caregivers …nurses , physio , nurs practitioner and even a doctor who all come to check and treat ( even a medical proceedure) on her.
These are all competent and caring individuals who have restored my faith in “individuals” as opposed to the medical “Establishment”
Thanks for your candid reply Dadoc. I agree with you 100% that we should have just let this run its course. Ya, some would have died. People die from influenza every year too but the left has conveniently forgotten that.
Instead, we have caused untold mental illness and financial losses. Suicides have skyrocketed, depression is so rampant that there are not enough counsellors in the world to deal with it. Domestic abuse too. And then there’s the side effects of the shots themselves.
Of course, if I mention this to anyone, they immediately accuse me of “wanting to kill people”. Since when has it become so unacceptable for anyone to die of a virus, yet it’s okay to have suicides/domestic abuse/chronic health problems etc.
My faith in the medical community is gone. I know I will need medical care in the future, but I will never again look at a doctor or nurse as I once did. I hope there is a future where people in the helping professions will once again be admired. It won’t be anytime soon.
In the same camp. Have lost all trust in alopathic medicine and its practitioners. The pharmacists included.
Just walk into any big pharmacy today, and its more like a Walmart. The staff treat you like a dumb consumer and will sell you whatever they can, usually the most expensive solution, which does nothing anyways.
Its not about your health. Its about profit, and they could not care less whether you die or not, from their advice.
Perhaps I had an early warning about the state of medical care in the west. My mother was a life long nurse, trained at a religious teaching hospital in Montreal. She didn’t moan about much, but she often spoke about the deteriorating level of care in our hospitals. Unfortunately, after a lifetime of service to her patients, she was left to the tender mercies of our government run system. She died in her mid nineties, her bones diseased and brittle. She needed pain control and competent care. She received neither. Of my many regrets, one is that I didn’t go a little nuts in that hospital demanding better treatment for my mom.
If we have another federal election, I’m sure all of our political parties will pledge allegiance to our wonderful medical system, and promise even more money to make it even better. I won’t be voting.
I can relate, Strider. I’ve lost all faith too. It started when, before the shots came out, I requested an antibody test for myself. Our family physician said “sure, but even if you have antibodies you should still take the shots when they are available”
WTF??
As the rollout progressed, patients at the local clinic were sent letters insinuating that they were foolish if they did not get the vax (I am so loathe to call it that, because it isn’t a vaccine at all). The next missive sent out was to state something to the effect of “we don’t want to see the unvaxxed at all, but because we have to, we have decided to limit visits to one unvaxxed person per day. That person can only have the last appointment of the day, and the staff will all have to wear much extra PPE. This is a huge inconvenience to all of us so just go get your shots”
We have since received additional communications chiding the unvaxxed and making comparisons such as “you received your polio shots as a child, why wouldn’t you do the same with these shots?”
Truly disconcerting when one’s own physician does not know the difference between a sterilizing and non-sterilizing vaccine 🙁
