Not sure if anyone else on the forum follows him, but I do. A bit of background: He’s an Internal Medicine specialist out of Boston, born raised and trained in the UK. He has had Covid early on and is a big believer in natural immunity. Also thinks mask mandates are bullshit, no one should be forced into taking the shots etc. So, one of us 🙂

Tonight he did a 40-min webinar about medical authoritarianism as pertaining to the last 2 years. I thought it was really well done. He has been banned from You-Tube and Twitter for “spreading misinformation” so is on locals.com. I cannot figure out how to provide a link to tonight’s talk, so will summarize.

Before continuing, I recognize that we have some physicians on this forum. Winedoc and Dadoc come to mind, and these may be others. Please do not think that I am tarring every physician with the same brush. There are many excellent physicians out there like yourselves, capable of critical thinking and standing up for your principles. This is directed at the others who are just blindly following orders without any thought.

Tonight Dr Dhand was explaining why many physicians fall into authoritarian behaviour, defined as blindly following orders and coercing patients to do same without giving them a chance to state their position. Here are some salient points raised:

  • during the Nazi regime, it was physicians that signed up first to become Nazis
  • a 2017 study in the Lancet pointed out that a high % of physicians possess narcissistic personality and enjoy being authoritarian. The “god” complex
  • when it comes to the Covid narrative, physicians have been both the victims of and the perpetrators of authoritarianism
  • authoritarian behaviour is learned at school. The aspiring physicians are forced to accept the teachings of their professors and are not encouraged to question things
  • had more physicians stood up and said “this is wrong, we are not going along with it”, things would not have gotten out of hand like this. The UK had a higher % of physicians who stood up. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for Australia and North America
  • Dr Dhand has noticed that a fair number of younger physicians are very political and make no attempts to hide this. These are the ones whining on Twitter that “removing the mask mandates has put my pregnant wife at risk” and “I’m going to wear 2 masks. So there!

The arguments put forth made sense to me, and unfortunately I’m not left with a lot of hope that this group of professionals will stand up to government or question the status quo. Any physicians out there who would like to weigh in on this?
