   To be clear, “owned by” doesn’t mean Blackrock has controlling ownership.
   And Blackrock, like Fidelity, or Vanguard, is a fiduciary investing center.
   Meaning, the shares Blackrock ‘owns’ are owned on behalf of moms and pops and pension funds.
   So these are AUM, deployed into these corporate equities.
   Now they do ALSO own stuff outright, like real estate. And more, I’m sure.
   Would be nice to see that all broken down.

     Well they Own these Companies…as in Controlling interests….with all the influence that bestows

   They may collectively have what appears to be controlling number of shares but like Pedro explains above it is only in a fiduciary capacity.(so does Calpers, other large pension funds, university endowments, etc.) Theoretically, they could vote the shares in a block but those votes for directors and shareholder proposals are usually just rubber stamps for management regardless of who owns the shares. One can be upset about ownership concentration of corporations but there is nothing that can be done to change it. It is what it is and there are so many more important issues to rail against. Like corporations controlling government by buying votes and regulatory capture.
