Well, yeah, I was just using mattresses as a metaphor for “safe keeping.” I can think of a ton of places outside of financial institutions to keep real money.
Folks, how else can we protect our capital from greedy governments? I’d like to hear your thoughts on this in=f you don’t mind.

Protect your “capital” by putting it into something real. Like gold, silver coins. Junk silver coins. We just bought a house. Free and clear. Converted fake money into something real. Convert to something that is useful. A pick-up truck. A passport from a second country. Land, large enough to grow food to feed yourself. Look at what people in Argentina did and are doing. When cash is banned it will increase in value. So keep some on hand OUTSIDE of the system. A few grand hidden in special places. Perhaps deep under a tree on the land you just bought. An acre of land can feed you and your family for a very long time. Buy seeds. Buy fruit trees. Grow things that can be eaten and/or sold. Spend $$ on a new skill that will never be out of demand: plumbing, electrical, mechanic, carpentry, etc. What will rich people need/buy when times are really bad? Get ready to provide what they need, or learn a service that they will pay handsomely for. Or you could become a community organizer and own a mansion in Martha’s Vineyard and build a second waterfront mansion in Hawaii. Ask the folks in Venezuela how they are surviving in a world with worthless currency…and then do that. Or get ready to do that. The mother of all collapses is coming at us like a freight train. Don’t wait. Do it now.

The folks in Argentina, Venezuela, the Weimar Republic, Zimbabwe, Hungary, etc etc etc did not have the luxury of date-certain knowledge of the undoing of their lives.
So you apparently have less than two years to “get ready.” Time flies, especially after you hit 70.
The timing for me comes down to the situation in the EU. When they take the EU down is when I think it will happen.
I already have enough metals, a greenhouse, large garden, a mortgage free home and a friend with a farm. I still need to close out an investment line of credit against the home because paid off or not, the bank can still take it.
You did not say anything about crypto though… I want to look into this because it may offer another level of protection.
