Close on the heels of the CDC’s announcement that a third dose of the COVID-19 jabs are necessary to achieve full vaccination status, the agency published a new recommendation today, October 27, 2021, for a fourth dose for certain immunocompromised individuals.

“Moderately and severely immunocompromised people aged ?18 years who completed an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine primary series and received an additional mRNA vaccine dose may receive a single COVID-19 booster dose (Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, or Janssen) at least 6 months after completing their third mRNA vaccine dose,” the CDC says on its website. “In such situations, people who are moderately and severely immunocompromised may receive a total of four COVID-19 vaccine doses.”

While the CDC recommends consulting with your doctor before getting additional doses, it adds that “a person who received one primary dose of Janssen COVID-19 vaccine should not receive more than two COVID-19 vaccine doses.”

In the same update to its guidance, the agency also advises anyone who developed myocarditis or pericarditis after receiving an mRNA shot not to get any more doses “until additional safety data are available.”
